I Left My Heart in San Francisco

I was born in San Francisco, but I don’t think that’s why I love it so much. San Francisco is an incredibly beautiful city, as most who’ve been there would attest to. But, San Francisco is not just a pretty face.

San Francisco is bursting at the seams with beauty on the inside. Between it’s delicious 7×7 miles, San Francisco is overflowing with history, culture, art, creativity, pride, authenticity, and people unlike any other you’ll meet. All those who know San Francisco the way I know it, have passed beyond it’s golden gates to fall in love with all that it is made up of.

Juan and I had our third wedding anniversary on Wednesday. It was simple and perfect, just the two of us rolling around SF, doing some of our favorite old things. We walked along Chrissy Field in the sun with the quintessential fog rolling in above us, we had beers outside in that same sunny fog at Zeitgeist, we drove up to my old hood, Potrero Hill, to see some dear friends, and we topped the night off with a heavenly meal at Delfina. It was so good to be back in San Francisco again, with Juan, and nothing but time to spend together.

Maybe it’s that there seems to be love all around me lately, and probably I’m just getting sappy…but I think that our wedding bands could be compared to San Francisco. They’re nice to look at, but the real goodness is on the inside. Our bands were designed and made by a Hopi jeweler who told me that his intention of putting the turquoise on the inside was to symbolize that “beauty is what comes from within”. No one can see the turquoise but we know its there. We know and wear those rings from the inside out.

San Francisco will always be that to me: beautiful from the inside out. No matter where in the world I live, those wise old words will always ring true for me, beauty is undoubtedly what comes from within.

Denise! It is so wonderful to hear from you – I miss you. I love to read your comments about the blog so much and love to know that you are reading it. Our trip home was SUCH a wonderful time but a whirlwind as usual and we missed too many of our friends that we had hoped to see, like you! Any chance you and Spencer will be traveling soon? Big hugs and thanks and lots of love. xx
