I clap along because I know what happiness means to me
I move my feet because his mother I’m proud to be
I whistle the tune, I bang the drum, I strum the strings of time
I snap & hum & spin & twirl with this little boy who’s mine
My Joaquin Fox, my One Man Band
Each day is his song and dance
In two short years packed full of life
we celebrate every chance
At times he leads with my hand in his
at others he’s on his own
And with my constant love and care
his spirit has bloomed and grown
He’s wild and observant, comedic and kind
independent to his core
He climbs and runs, he’s a nudist at heart
Travels forests, valleys, and shores
I do my best to let him shine
and to give him all he needs
I realize though, with each passing day
that this is his life to lead
So I will teach him all I can
how to be empathetic, strong, and wise
to laugh and dare to travel and love
hold on to friends and family ties
I’m pushed and challenged by this humbling job
my patience tested true
And yet this boy, my sunshine son
always shares his song renewed
His is a melody that I know by heart
an anthem that bellows and rocks
It moves my feet and cuts a rug
The song of my Joaquin Fox
Happy 2nd Birthday my boy
take me by the hand
It’s time to celebrate and dance
with my favorite One Man Band
{Love from your mama, January 2014}
